This place is pretty metal and has a great selection of beer and food. Kitchen stays open past 10 pm and staff is very friendly. Prices aren't bad either.
I ate at the Dark Horse about a week ago. I ordered the Dark Horse Burger which was amazingly good. Next to Kelly's Depot this burger is the top in Saint Paul in my opinion. The bartender was helpful in picking out drinks and food, and the location is great. If your looking for great food, drinks, and atmosphere I'd give this place a try. Will definitely be back again.
Went for a birthday dinner on a friends recommendation. The service was incredibly slow. So slow that by the time the server returned to take our food order at 8:00pm the restaurant was already sold out of my first two choices. I settled for the chicken(not on the online menu, it's outdated). It was a small portion and way too dry. My wife ordered the coconut lime rice with shrimp and it was too spicy to eat. Nice beer selection that I was able to check out as we had lots of waiting time. Summary: slow, poor service and food that left us hungry and wishing we went somewhere else.
Food is okay. The service was slow. It took a while to get our food. All we ordered was a pizza. We had to check with the wait staff to see where our food was and how long it would be. Fortunately, we were with friends and having a conversation, otherwise, the wait would have been obnoxious. The wait staff did not come to check on us or refill our drinks. It was the first time I've ever had a round Pizza that was cut like a square. I'm used to traditional Pizza being cut in slices. This was weird to me.
They wouldn’t let a lady have a drink even though she can because she took a train/bus to the location... One of our friends has DUI on her license and they refused to serve her. In the last year we have never run into this sort of problem before, so we paid for our drinks and left without ordering dinner. Coming from Wisconsin and seeing so many people from Minnesota having an DUI, we never thought this would be an issue ordering a beer during dinner.. will definitely not be returning anytime soon. Any restaurant establishment that makes our friends feel inadequate are immediately out of the running. We are people who like to try new places but this is one I would stay from if you have someone with a DUI...
