The staff was very friendly and professional. Selection of vehicles at the Emerald Aisle were extremely limited. The return of the car to National was an adventure, requiring several circuits around the garage because signs were either incorrect or none at all. National signs lead one go to a level in the garage. In reality, National is actually a level above. Once you get to the correct level, there are no signs showing a path to National. I ended up returning my vehicle at Avis because I could not find a way to get to National. Time is important for people trying to catch a flight, and there needs to be a better way to direct one to National. By the way, Avis people were very patient and helpful as they said that it happens all the time.
Love National. Walking right to the lot and picking out my car is the best - No counter stop at all. Life is hard, but it’s harder when you’re stupid. It’s unacceptable to accept as normal that you should get off a plane and then stand in line for 30 minutes to rent a car. Yet there they are - I walk past these people every time I’m renting a car.
I have used National for a long time and I really like the concept of picking the vehicle you want out of a variety of vehicles. I thought the Executive Elite status would mean you got a better selection of better cars. That is not the case at this location. I often go to the Elite area to select the best vehicle available. Also, this location has an unusually large number of vehicles available but there are either no keys in the car or a sign on the car says the keys are lost. Since the person that parks the cars here are National employees, I don’t understand why this is such a problem.
I've rented from National hundreds of times, but from the team in Minneapolis only a few. Overall, they are a friendly and helpful team, though the availability of ready vehicles in the Emerald Aisle and Executive Emerald Aisle can sometimes be lacking due to insufficient staff to bring the vehicles up from downstairs (so I've been told). Getting to the facilities is straightforward and easy, however it is a bit of a challenge locating someone who can make a decision if a car substitution is needed. My last rental, the car they gave me had not been washed and had an empty tank of gas, but that was the premium vehicle which I had asked if they would upgrade me to (which they agreed). Overall, I would suggest the team needs to figure out how to make vehicles available and ready for use, as their customer facing attitude is otherwise very good.
I used the emerald aisle as a perk of my emerald club membership. I was a little worried about what would be in the aisle for vehicles as this was my first time doing this and it was so close to Christmas. They had a very large selection there and a lot of different styles to choose from. I was very surprised when I happened upon a Camaro SS sitting there in the aisle. I'm used to seeing base models of these "sporty" cars at rental agencies that are so pathetic and boring to drive. It was refreshing to see that they had an upper level car that actually had a bit of power. This car also was brand new with just over 100 miles on it! My only negative point is that they let that car slip through with summer tires on it in the middle of a Minnesota winter! I found this out quickly when I got to the snow covered driveway where I was staying and the whole car was completely loose. Checked and noticed they had left the factory summer only tires on which have ZERO traction in the snow or even in cold temperatures. Not a large issue for me personally as I'm used to driving cars of this nature but could have been a lawsuit if someone had crashed because of it. A minor flaw in my eyes though as it comes with territory.
